A 328i NYC green outer borough cab spotted in the LES. This is the first I've seen, is it the only??

I'd assume that BMW taxis are unicorns outside of europe. They are somewhat of a thing in germany, although a lot less common than Mercedes' and Volkswagens.

Very common in Europe.

I saw someone using an older E Class as a taxi it wasn't green but it had a TLC license plate. If you use a German car to drive hundreds of miles daily, you're going to have a bad time.

Not in my part of europe (the good part).

Yea, there's like one Lexus taxi in NYC, maybe three Mercs, and as far as I know only one BMW. Outside of a major city like this all you're likely to see are Crown Vics or ex-rental GM products.

Interesting. Every second taxi in Germany is a Merc when they could have bought something more reliable. The ones that aren't tend to be Audis and BMWs. Wonder why?

I suspect parts and labor are cheaper in Germany for German cars period than here in the US. Even if some cars are made here doesn't mean they are any cheaper.

Why not, all Taxis/ Police cars tend to be domestic if available

At least from a domestic perspective, Merc E-Class and BMW 5ers are just a wee more interesting than ye olde Crown Vic or 2003 Chevy Impala.
Behold and bask in the glory of the American Livery Experience; truly the coach of the gods.
